Hey, I'm Jack

Freelance web developer
& web designer

I'm a 31 year old web developer with over 12 years of experience based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm also a motorcycle enthusiast, avid traveler and a giant nerd.

What I do

Laravel Development

I have a strong programming background and have worked with many MVC frameworks such as Laravel, Yii and Ruby on Rails. Laravel quickly became my favorite framework though and has been the go to PHP framework for a long time now.

Wordpress Development

I have been a freelance WordPress developer since I started building websites over 12 years ago.

I'm not your average drag and drop WordPress "developer", I can build and design from the ground up, the way it should be done.

JavaScript Development

I'm not just a back end guy. I have worked with VueJS, Angular and React. So can take care of the front end interaction side of things.

Hosting

I use super fast VPS servers and cloud hosting instead of the usual cheap shared hosts. This means more performance, better security and better reliability.

SEO

What use is a website that no one can find?

I can help get your website ranking on Google and push it higher up the rankings.

Ecommerce

Want to sell your products online?

I have worked with many different e-commerce platforms, such as WooCommerce, Magento and Shopify.

A little about me

I have been a software engineer for over 12 years now and fell into this by accident. I wanted to start my own business at the age of 17 and needed a website... The business might have failed but I discovered my love for code and it snowballed from there.

My work

The Process

I take pride in building websites that not only look great, but load fast and rank well on google. Each step of the process has this philosophy in mind.

Every project is unique. However, this is a good example of the general process for a custom build from start to finish.

1

Requirements Gathering

What does the website actually need to do? We need to get on the same wavelength, so an initial chat either over zoom or in person, gives me an idea of what we are looking to achieve.

2

Wireframing & Planning

Next up we need to draw out a rough idea of where we want things to go, so we can visualise how things are going to look and take detailed notes.

Usually this just consists of sitting down together and doing some sketches in a notepad.

3

Design

If I'm designing the site, I will typically directly build the designs in HTML. Otherwise deisngs will usually come from a designer built in XD for me to replicate into HTML.

This is the point where we can really see what the final outcome will actually look like and can work out any design kinks early on.

4

Build

I'll then take the HTML templates and build them into whichever platform has been chosen. Usually this would be WordPress, or if it's something more bespoke, then a framework like Laravel.

5

Sign off

When the build has been completed, you will be sent a link to a developer copy of the website where you can see the final product. We can then work on any tweaks that may need to be done to get the site over the line.

6

Hosting

I host all my sites on high speed VPS servers which are significantly faster and more secure than your average shared hosting that is typically used.

I always take a strong focus on site speed and properly set up, high quality servers can make a big difference to how fast your site loads.
